Skywalker Ranch!! LucasFilm headquarters! Located in gorgeous San Francisco, those are two places that changed my life this weekend! An honor being part of the Rogue One Event is already an incredibly exciting experience, because…t’s Star Wars!! We grew up with Star Wars and when the first film was released, my brothers and I were immediately enamored with the epic scope of the story.
Rogue One Event – First Day and First Looks
Now that we’ve seen the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and now we eagerly await the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. On the very first day, we all had the opportunity to see the famous Skywalker Ranch and Lucasfilm headquarters the very next day. And let me tell you, it’s everything you could ever imagine and more!
Last Saturday, we visited Skywalker Ranch to watch 28 minutes of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, new stars that will catch your immediate attention! Enough to convince me that it will go down as one of the best entries into the Star Wars cannon ever. The introduction to the footage was provided by Gareth Edwards, the director of the film and was held at Stag theater in the Technical Building.
After watching the TRULY EPIC footage of Rogue One, we paid a visit to the gift shop to see some amazing Star Wars gifting items which you cannot find anywhere else!
We even got to hobnob with other international media at an exclusive reception. Gareth Edwards was there to mingle. The finger foods were delicious, and that’s where we were able to hang out with the core of the Imperial army, the Storm Troopers! It was so much fun, because it had a nice, personal feel to it.
The following day, we got to tour LucasFilm Headquarters, and it was AH-mazing! From the moment you see the absolutely gorgeous Yoda fountain, you know you’re in a special place. Incredible memorabilia on display, wow so much history! I saw a life sized Darth Vader, R2-D2, C-3PO, Yoda, AND Han Solo in carbonite! PROPS! So many of them!
We also got to have a sit down with the stars of Rogue One – which I’ll share in a later post – and tour the property while we learned about the film. We got to learn about how LucasFilm reconstructed the original ships from the first three films using a combination of model set reconstruction and computer programming. This approach allowed them to recreate the ships with even greater detail than they were ever able to when the original trilogy came out as well as keeping them true to the time frame within the Star Wars cannon where the movie takes place.
We even got the opportunity to see how they used motion capture technology to help create the newest droid in the Star Wars universe, K-2SO. Using motion capture, they were able to create a droid with more fluid and life-like movements than ever before, and what’s really cool is that the man who showed us how it all works for K-2SO also played Blue in Jurrasic World. Super neat!
The entire process is what allows Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to fully capture the feel of the first trilogy while giving us all an incredibly rich, full movie experience. It was a truly amazing experience.
The Rogue One Event Has Much More to Come
